What’s the best type of pool cover to choose?

The most important function of a summer cover is the insulating function. This enables you to retain more heat in the pool when you’re not swimming. The heating costs for your pool will therefore be lower. A foam summer cover provides much better insulation than a bubble wrap cover. For this reason, we would advise you to always use a foam summer cover.

A foam summer cover is also stronger than a bubble wrap cover. Your summer cover will then also last longer. As a result, the higher purchase price of your summer cover will be quickly recouped. Whereas a bubble wrap cover will last a maximum of 10 years, a foam pool cover can easily last up to 15 years. Because the foam cover is stronger, it is also a bit heavier and harder to roll up.

One disadvantage of a bubble wrap or foam summer cover is the increased risk of algae growth. Algae can become visible on the bottom of the cover over the course of time. The specific texture of this cover provides an excellent breeding ground for algae, which will cause the bottom of the cover to turn green. The algae on the cover also affect the water quality of the swimming pool itself.

A good summer cover ensures that less dirt gets into the pool. This means, in principle, that you won’t need to use so many maintenance products. However, when algae grow on the bottom, you lose this advantage. For this reason, we recommend a foam pool cover. This type of cover greatly reduces the risk of algae growth on the bottom of the cover.
